Theo Mitchell already experienced the worst night he may ever have. After his mother’s death, his uncle plucked him from his inner-city world and plopped him into a high school without metal detectors and trash in the hallways. He hears the other students laughing at his thrift-shop clothes as they swagger about in their expensive brand names, latest cell phones clutched in their hands.

He just wants to keep his head down and stay out of trouble as the fish-out-of-water new kid in school.
No such luck. As three bullies are making mincemeat out of him, though, one person comes to his rescue—Draven, the only student who had spoken to him. When Draven asks Theo for study help and shares his own losses, the grieving teenager is able to drop his guard long enough to make a friend and plan for the future.

When another tragedy brings new loss, will it crush Theo, cause him to put up permanent walls against the world … or will it compel him to explore a wider world and to create a bigger life?
